Forged in the fires of Viking lore, reanimated in modern day Scandinavia, and imported to the quiet village of Ballard - Kubb is set to continue it's roaring American debut. In 2010, the amateur circuit sprang from humble grass-roots, and captured the imagination of everyone from young professionals to the occasional curious homeless Seattleite. This year Co-Commissioners 4 Life, Blake "The Closer" and Courtney "The Laser" have unveiled the newest semi-pro league in America, the Seattle Kubb League (SKL).

06/21: Kubb Beach Bash

Hey there folks, huge apologies from the humble Co-Commish of the SKL. I know there are countless loyal readers, as well as the occasional person who stumbled onto this site, who have been itching to know what's been going on on the local Kubb scene.

While Seattle has proved to have a huge amount of Kubb talent, the league added some serious star power with the visit of Sweden's Kung och Drottning of Kubb, Björn and Ulrika.

As a wonderful gift, they brought us a set from Sweden when they came to visit. Given that Marta organized a trip to Golden Gardens to commemorate the longest day of the year, we thought it would be a perfect time for the first inaugural Kubb Beach Bash.
Despite the shot in the arm provided by our visiting Swedes, we found that beach Kubb is vastly more difficult than that played on a regulation field. However, while the Kubb medium was brand new, I played as lousy as ever.
Björn "The Bear" came in and hustled the crap out of all of us, going 3 for 3 in matchups, and making a dramatic debut to the SSBI.
Despite the Kubb beat down, the weather proved to be the biggest star. And while I played lousy; between the great friends from near and far, the shining sun and the occasional cold brew, I happily declare the evening a success.
