Forged in the fires of Viking lore, reanimated in modern day Scandinavia, and imported to the quiet village of Ballard - Kubb is set to continue it's roaring American debut. In 2010, the amateur circuit sprang from humble grass-roots, and captured the imagination of everyone from young professionals to the occasional curious homeless Seattleite. This year Co-Commissioners 4 Life, Blake "The Closer" and Courtney "The Laser" have unveiled the newest semi-pro league in America, the Seattle Kubb League (SKL).

7/2: Midsommar Major MMXI

In honor of our friends in from out of town, and one of the most bitchingest holidays ever invented by a bunch of pagans, we held a Midsommar Party at Kubb Headquarters in Ballard, USA. This would be the first Major of the Kubb Season.
As is customary, we started the festivities off with singing what should be the national anthem of Sweden (and not just a small southern Swedish town).

All the stars showed up for the Midsommar Major MMXI. Including the "Boeing Bomber",
Kyle "Black Beard"
A gaggle of Spokanistanis
More Swede's than you can throw a herring at:

And of course your humble commissioner (flying all my favorite colors apparently).

Señor Steuck, Apollo and Ian kicked off the festivites.

Björn, Drew and Marta made up a formidable Kubb Dream Team.
"iMac" celebrating victory.
Micah, Ana and Señor Steuck.
The first Major tournament also allowed me to use an executive order to institute some new rules. The final match of the evening pitted the two highest scoring Kubbthletes of the evening in a one-on-one duel. As it turned out, this pitted myself against "The Piston". Drew's dominating performance continued as he pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in one of the most epic battles to ever be waged on a Kubb pitch. Kudos Mr. Piston. You can now add "Midsommar Major MMXI CHAMPION" to your lengthy list of accomplishments!

And now the moment that participants, fans and media members alike have been waiting for. The season standings:

1. "The Piston"
2. Marta "Den Norsk"
3. Ian "iMac"
4. Gallagher, Jake
6. Björn "The Bear"
7. Sarah M.
8. Blake "The Closer"
9. L'Assassin, Chamberlain, Tom "The Exhuberant"
12. Señor Steuck
13. Kyle "Black Beard"
14. Courtney "The Laser"
15 "The Boeing Bomber", Apollo, Kat

Note: There has been some subtle changes to the SSBI. Namely, I've put a minimum number of matches played to determine the ranking. So for those of you who wonder where your name is, well ... you should probably play more.

06/21: Kubb Beach Bash

Hey there folks, huge apologies from the humble Co-Commish of the SKL. I know there are countless loyal readers, as well as the occasional person who stumbled onto this site, who have been itching to know what's been going on on the local Kubb scene.

While Seattle has proved to have a huge amount of Kubb talent, the league added some serious star power with the visit of Sweden's Kung och Drottning of Kubb, Björn and Ulrika.

As a wonderful gift, they brought us a set from Sweden when they came to visit. Given that Marta organized a trip to Golden Gardens to commemorate the longest day of the year, we thought it would be a perfect time for the first inaugural Kubb Beach Bash.
Despite the shot in the arm provided by our visiting Swedes, we found that beach Kubb is vastly more difficult than that played on a regulation field. However, while the Kubb medium was brand new, I played as lousy as ever.
Björn "The Bear" came in and hustled the crap out of all of us, going 3 for 3 in matchups, and making a dramatic debut to the SSBI.
Despite the Kubb beat down, the weather proved to be the biggest star. And while I played lousy; between the great friends from near and far, the shining sun and the occasional cold brew, I happily declare the evening a success.
